Pretty much my thoughts. Reading the original post left me figuring he was putting in pistons for a B230 -- maybe with a clean up overbore on top of that - the usual 10,20,30 or 40 over. I'm just guessing but I'd think Volvo made motors fit particular tax brackets - so making a red block under 2 liters would be a natural and leaving enough meat from the getgo to increase the block's production run life to the 2.3 range from our more familiar B21.
I always thought the "F" designation had to do with the K-jet injection--then "T" for turbo. -- Dave
