Left over salt on carpet

Most carpets are some sort of polyester these days - non absorbent. So it seems like if it's nice and dry a good stiff brush in conjunction with a strong vacuum cleaner would get it out. I'd certainly try to go that route before getting it wet. You may have to get it wet at the very end to draw out the last remains. However, water + salt soaking down through the carpet to the metal = corrosion.
