What is the best way to remove crusted on salt from the carpet? Seems the winter mat doesn't quite cover the side of the console and behind the gas pedal.

I want to put the more comfortable summer mats in the car now, but I need to get rid of the white salt!!

No, I am not going to pour water on it and spread it around.
