Regarding the fuel filter before the pump. I know this is the opposite problem you are having, but I caution you to buy a filter that is compatible with low PSI, and not the type off the shelf of O'Reilly's or Auto Zone, if you decide to go back to the original glass bowl pump. (I strongly encourage you to do that BTW) With the filter on, I noticed it would never completely fill and would often leave the glass bowl of my pump sucking dry, then catching up after increasing the vacuum by increasing the RPM's. At first I thought it might have something to do with the gas cap being too snug. NEGATIVE. I still had the problem after running around without the cap on. It seems the pressure required to keep the filter chamber full and the vacuum from the pump are incompatible. Perhaps if you decide to keep the new pump, place the filter between Carbs and pump and see if you get the desired result. Good Luck !
