For what it's worth, I've been driving without a belt connecting the PS for the last 6 months. It does require more upper body strength, but after a month or so you don't notice as much. Also planning for parking and tight low speed turns is more important. Not sure I'd say parking is impossible. It's also been sort of helpful on the ice as you can tell when your front tires aren't getting traction. Probably still safer to get it fixed though
What I'm wondering is does it put significant extra stress on the PS rack or steering column? I don't have the PS on my 82 wagon, so maybe I have a larger steering wheel as Prophet21 mentions. Never noticed a size difference when compared to my 86 though.
