About 12 years ago my daughter lost power steering conveniently in front of a Volvo dealership driving her 1990 sedan. The smoke coming from under the hood was the AC belt trying to drive a seized compressor. After getting an $1800 quote from the boys in the dealership, Dad arrived to cut the belt and drive it home for her. Like the rest have mentioned, it was nice driving on the highway but not nimble in the parking lots and I didn't want her finding that out, so I got a JY compressor to replace the seized one.
Best for you to get under that car and find out what is really leaking. You don't want to ruin the PS pump in any case. Guessing is just wasting your time.
