Replace antenna mast 700 1987

Jerry I tried to pry the sleeve off with a tiny screwdriver on the lip with no success. I was afraid to damaged thread where the nut goes...I Do see the "finger" (actually 2,one on each side of the sleeve)you mentioned,on the new one I got .It seems to me that without "pushing" the "finger(s)" into the mast the sleeve will not come out.Do you suggest I remove the whole antenna assembly from the car and work it from there? Tks
