Orange gunk in intake hose 200 1991

I cleaned out the intake hose, the MAF, and the flame trap hose. I noticed the flame trap looked pretty dirty so I took it out. In the process, I broke the vacuum port. I went to my box of old parts hoping I saved the old one and I found a brand new one! (I guess you have to actually install the parts after you buy them for it to count.)

I struggled greatly to get the flame trap system back together. I wondered if there is a way to extend the lower hose to get this little guy out from the cavern it resides in...but I couldn't get any straight hose to engage the port off of the oil separator box.

After putting it back together, the Dragon started right up.

I'm concerned though that this is a symptom of a bigger problem. How long will it be before enough gunk builds back up in the system to cause enough accumulation on the MAF to keep it from starting? Is there a problem with the oil separator box not separating?

Thanks for the advice everyone.
