And just as a probably unneeded footnote - this can be a real PITA. Getting it engaged with the oil pump proplery *and* aligned properly, all at the same time.
Of course, you can compensate for a badly misaligned timing gear by monkeying around with the wire positions and twisting the distributor around, but it's not a great solution.
As an additional note, if you used one of those IPD rings on the oil pump drive, it gets *MUCH*HARDER*, as the tip of the drive gear won't easly slip into the oil pump's slot.
If you are assembling an engin on the stand and have the luxury of doing it, it's a lot easier to install the cam, install the drive gear, aligned properly, and *then* install the oil pump.
