The clutch is very heavy to begin with. I converted my auto 740 to manual and thought I did something wrong the first time I tried to push in the clutch. Coming from a Toyota, it feels like you're trying to push the entire engine; not just the clutch. As for the adjustment, if the clutch has worn well, you might not ever get any symptoms other than not being able to adjust it any further. When I met my wife, she had an old VW Rabbit that had a clutch that didn't let out until the last inch of travel. Her father insisted that it was supposed to be that way. When it was finally pulled apart, it had no lining whatsoever, but still shifted fine, other than 1st gear being hard to engage from a stop.
