"They can handle it."...and then some. On I95 I run my auto up to about 85 in 3rd with regularity. 85mph is pretty much cruising speed, and if you don't get there fast you'll create a honking, cursing pile-up.

I have no qualms with letting it kick-down at any speed. As far as I know Volvo put a rev limiter on there and I figure it knows what it's doing.
