SRS light malfunction 1988

I posted this about three weeks ago and got no responses. I decided to post it again in all the RWD forums in hopes that someone might be able to point me in the right direction. Thanks for any insight.
*****************************************************
Current project is a 1988 744Ti 4 speed OD.

The SRS light remains on anytime the ignition switch is on.

FAQ procedure of reading stored codes does not result in any response from the light. Once the jumper is removed the light comes on again and does not flash.

Removing the battery for an extended period (days in this case) does not cause the light to go out once the ignition is turned on again.

Referencing the FAQ's there is mention of a yellow or orange wire from the sensor that has can have a connection fault. Can someone tell me the route of this wire so I can find it and check all the connections?

For that matter can someone tell me the location of the sensor itself? Is it under the driver's seat? If so it would appear that it is necessary to remove the seat to access the sensor?

I have a 1990 740 parts car with the system in place. Assuming the sensor in the 88 is bad would the 90 be a direct swap?

Thanks for any answers to the numerous questions.

Randy
