I hooked the ignition switch cable (wrongly) to the solenoid field (braided wire) terminal, so, I could not even get lights, etc.

After putting it over to the longer bolt , the one with the positive battery cable, I got intermittant headlights, a loud click from one of the two relays on the firewall, but no solenoid nor starter engagement. No flashers, but the heater fan and light for the Blaupunkt radio worked with the ignition switch to "ON"

I believe the relay that clicks is the "Step Relay for Dipped, full-beams Switching"

I could only get headlights if I fiddled with the high beam selector stalk.

No instrument lights when the key is in the"ON" position, just dull alternator lamp with key moved to "start".
