Pump problem 1800 1972

Did you check the special one-fuse box for the fuel pump? Usually the fuse
is good but making poor contact.
I've never had an 1800 so I am not sure where the relay is but my guess is on
the right side of the engine compartment behind the MAP sensor.
You can identify it because when you turn on the ignition it will make two
clicks about a second or a second and a half apart.
You can check it like anything else, with a voltmeter.
