Thanks to all who replied. The job went fine. It took me about four hours once I had cleaned up my garage and had the car up on jackstands. No surprises or problems, except for the fact that the strut assemblies didn't have enough room to go back into the hole at the top of the wheel well after I reassembled them. I took off the inner mounting nut for the ball joint, and loosened the outer pair of nuts, and that got me the extra inch or so of clearance that I needed (and made the replacement of the ball joints all the easier).
I also had a little bit of uneasiness with the impact wrench not knowing if the strut top nuts were actually bottoming out on the threads, or if the shaft was just spinning. The impact wrench was a godsend (especially for dealing with the spring compressors), but I found myself wishing that I had the deep offset wrench or the special Volvo wrench so I could torque the top nut with more confidence.
I still need to replace the control arm bushings, which I have to wait on because I don't have a press. But so far, along with the new KYBs in the rear, new ball joints and tie rod ends, turbo sways and poly sway mounts & end links, the car rides like new again! Actually better than new, I'm sure. Of course it doesn't mean as much to my wife, but I certainly like driving it a lot more now....
