Buzzing frequency valve 200

Went to work in the '84 242Ti. It was raining heavily. Left it (car) in the parking lot and did my thing at work. 9 hours later, I come out and hear a buzzing sound as I pass the engine compartment. The car won't start and the buzzing continues. I pop the hood and the freq. valve is the source of the buzzing, no key in the ignition, everything OFF.

I start troubleshooting, I have spark but no fuel or pump sounds so I suspect the FPR. I remove it (it is very warm to the touch) and the buzzing stops. Aha! I pop the cover and dirty water pours all over my pants. Ugh.

The relay was upside-down in place and it looks like the windshield leaks (another weekend project). The circuit board was dirty & discolored around the transistor area and the relay coil is wet. The relay contacts are corroded. This has been wet for awhile. I jump the pumps and drive home.

Anyway, if your freq valve is humming with no key in the ignition, think FPR.
