difference between 83 and 85 240's 200 1983

Are your problems with the '83 fuel or ignition related?

One of the more annoying failures in my '83 235 was the fuel pump relays on the passenger firewall, inside. These failed often and intermittantly. I believe the 85 will have a relay above the driver's knee, or a different relay in the same location as the '83. This could make the swap a little more interesting.

Another common failure point was the fuel system relay near the battery ahead of the driver's strut tower. This corroded and caused intermittant problems in a number of cars I've seen.

This is a thorough job. You should plan on a new engine harness, or a fair amount of repair. The '85 will be a more reliable system, but if you've put a decent amount into the '83, I'd question dumping a bunch of time and money into swapping the repaired system out if it works now.

good luck-
Dylan
