At wits end 200 83

I previously posted about a cold start problem. I recieved some ideas, but nothing has checked out.

Among the things that have been checked and found OK are:

Thermal time switch AOK

Control pressure regulator AOK

Feul Pump AOK

Pre pump AOK

Feul pressure AOK

Cold start injector AOK

Check valve AOK

My first mechanic, not a Volvo specialist, can help me no. My second attempt at help was with a independant Volvo garage, they told me I needed new rear brake rotors and wanted me to pay $200 for further diagnosis of the problem they should have been looking at in the first place. I got my car and ran. Now I'm hoping that my third attempt at a diagnosis will be the charm.

Problem: Car will start but stall within seconds. Subsequent attempts are more difficult. Putting the gas peddle to the floor will get the engine to rev but will still choke and die. Sometimes I hear knocking under the hood. When I do get it to start it idles very rough and the car bounces. Once the car is running, after a few minutes of rough idling, it runs fine. After the car has been driven it starts fine. One quirk is, that very occationally the car will start up perfectly.

Has anyone had experience with this sort of problem.

Thanks in advance!

Another thing, may be hard to check, but anyway - you might have a pretty bad vacuum leak somewhere that seals up as the car warms. A bad intake manifold gasket or really bad injector seals might cause something like that - a large gap at cold start that seals as the metal/rubber/etc warms and expands.

It's started!

of course it only took a few simple repairs. New distributor cap, some dummy put my vacuum hoses on backwards, and the injector seals were shot.

However, It seems that it is lacking a bit of pick up.

Any clues to what that could be?

Thanks to everyone for the help!!

Yes, I agree strongly with Dave. It still says CPR to me too. Was it swapped?

Re: At wits end 200 83

Yes I had a similiar problem with my turbo when I first bought it. It

took me six months of part time troubleshooting and learning about the car

to figure it out. On my car the Control Pressure Regulator was bad and

it had leaking injector seals. By mentioning the CPR I assume you are talking about a K-jet injected car. You also may have some vacuum leaks.

Make sure you check the little vacuum lines, too. Even though you think

the CPR is good I would ask how it was checked. I found out mine was bad

with a pressure test. It checked out just fine electrically. Mine was

clogged causing high pressure making the engine too lean to run right.

Re: At wits end 200 83

Thanks Dave

I'm taking it to get pressure tested right now. I also have leaking injector seals.
