Allen I don't know were you are at be in Ohio , Auto Zone has replacement pads. I prefur the non-metalic pads to prolong the life of the rotors.

Re: Brake pads 700 87

Well alan , when it comes to pads you get what you pay for. Although volvos are always prone to brake squeeks the Quality of the pads are important . I have worked on Volvos for sixteen years and the the only ones I recommend are metal masters[ by pbr]. They are full metalic pads and you dont get brake fade as they heat up. Also get rear shims for the pads to reduce sqeaks ,somtimes they come in the box if your lucky. I've tryed bendix ,Ate , ect. Only to be disapointed. Make sure the rotors get surfaced or replaced or this whole exercise was for nothing. Of coarse if all you want to do is make it stop , for next to nothing , you can run out to kragen and buy the shit. GOOD LUCK AARON NAPA

Re: Brake pads 700 89

I just did my brakes on my 89 740 GL wag on wed. I used Ate pads with a coat of permatex on the backs. and new Ate Power Disk Rotors. I am happy with it. I dont know if the Ate pads are dusty but the pads that was on befor didnt look like OE and I think it could have contributed to the warping problem on the rotors. I still had a good 75% left on them They didnt look like a good fit. I used Jurid pads on the backs. Made in Spain by allied signal. I used what I could get from my favorite import auto parts store. I recomend changing all the pins and stuff. IPD has them and are a value compared to the dealer. I couldnt find the hardware sets locally. Thats my $0.02

Re: Brake pads 700 87

My latest favorites are Remsa Gold pads. I pay something like $22 for fronts, with brand new hardware (springs, pins, cotter pins, shims).

Rears, with new pins, springs, shims, etc, are $19. Semi metallic all around. Volvo charges more than that for just the hardware kit, then you're still out the $40+ for the pads themselves.

Usually quiet, last for a while, stop well, dust isn't too bad. For the price, who can argue?

I like the Volvo pads because in my opinion, they stop well. But they are dusty as !@#$%!!! And expensive too.

Re: Brake pads 700 87

I just picked up a set of PBR (Repco) brake pads for the 740. Bendix style pads were about 35 bux from my not so neighborhood parts place, they are about 30 miles away but they know imports.

PBR number D1169D for the 744Ti. Rear brakes are ATE.

Check out IPD or RPR or Brake Warehouse, or your local place. There are many vendors out there.

Re: Brake pads 700 87

PBR makes very good brake pads. As long as you either turn your rotors or put on new they will be quite. Give me a call and I'll beat any one elses prices.

Thanks

Never Turn Volvo Rotors!!! 700 87

Not recommended. I've never had a problem with rotor warpage either.
