The condensor's in front of the radiator, so you'd be disassembling a whole new area to remove it. The evaporator's above the blower motor, so you don't need to go there, either. Neither is terribly heavy.
The compressor is heavy, but it carries one of the rubber V-belts that drives the power steering pump: if you remove the compressor, you have to install at least a bracket and pully to hold the belt so the PS pump will continue to function. One or another of the aftermarket sources sell such a bracket.
My son and I had this opportunity years ago when the A/C gave up on his 1988 245, and we just left the compressor in place. In a 3000+ lb car, the additional weight of the compressor is pretty minor.
