Supplier for headliner material 700 1986

Well, I'm going to give my 745 headliner another shot.
I screwed up the job the first time I tried and am ready to attempt it again.
What a PITA, but I digress....

I had purchased 1/4" material from a local upholstery shop the first time.
This time I'm going with 1/8". I'm familiar with the discussions of 1/4" vs. 1/8".

The upholstery guy can order 1/8" material for me and it is not returnable etc.
Not that I intended on returning it anyway. It's just that he can't give me any imput on the quality of the material because he doesn't use that type.

I was hoping someone here has purchased some recently on-line and maybe has some opinions. I think the information in the FAQ may be dated regarding suppliers.

So does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks

Finally getting back to this.
Thanks for the input although I haven't checked the local fabric stores.

Interesting though, as I've been checking on-line, is seems that no one sells 1/8" headliner material. The nearest is 3/16" so I guess I'll be going with that.

Unfortunately I still have to do some repairs to the board which I am not looking forward to. It is cracked at the rear section where it bends down from the roof and I am concerned that if I fiberglass that, it will not have any "give" when I reinstall everything.

I guess what I want is for it to still flex a bit, but I'm pretty sure that won't happen if I repair the crack with fiberglass. Is there some other method to repair the cracks and maintain flexibility?

Thanks again.

I got a perfect match on color using an automotive vinyl from Wal-Mart. Mine has been in for almost two years and still looks good.

In my area (Northern VA) I was able to find headliner material at a couple of large fabric stores. It only came in one thickness, which was a little more than 1/8" but definitely less than 1/4", and a limited range of colors--black, dark blue and off-white, which is what I went with. The thickness seemed to work OK. If you are lucky enough to have a car without a sunroof, the thickness doesn't matter. It was about $35 for enough to do a 745. Make sure to get the correct type of spray adhesive, a 3M product that specifically states on the can that it is "suitable for automotive headliners" If you use anything else, it will come down in a few weeks.

I think I got mine from JoAnn Fabrics (not sure if they are still in business). The thinner the better. Make sure to use the heavy duty 3m headliner glue. I did mine 3 years ago and it's good as new. Unfortunately I screwed up my sun roof. Oh well, I don't use it anyway.
