I believe you already covered this in you first post but I have to ask, did you do the VCT2000 update? When I first got my copy I was getting the same B.S. you are and a kind individual from, I believe, this board hooked me up with the update. At the end of the install I got the smiley face that you refered to and all was good. Go into test VCT or communicaton test was it? Prior to the update it was no good after the update all was good on the VCT test. To do the update all you need is a car with an OBD II connector and you are good. Obviously though you will need a 99 or later to see if it really works. No, being hooked up to the internet is not necessary and I have been told by some guys that it is best that you are not so you won't have any corruption issues.
