Rev limiter on 850? 850 1994

Hi everyone ---

Earlier today I was revving up the engine on my '94 854 with a buddy at a stoplight for kicks. I punched the accelerator while the car was in neutral, then looked at the tachometer and to my horror, the RPM was at 6,500!!! I quickly let up on the gas and it dropped back down. I remember my '88 244 would cut the fuel as soon as the engine approached redline. Here are my questions:

Does the white block 850 engine have a rev limiter to prevent the engine from high redline?

And is what I did really that bad for the engine?

I hear a lot of people saying high RPM's are good on occasion for white block engines, but the fact that the engine went halfway past redline scared me. I'd like to think that the ECU on the 850 also prevents redlining. I've seen the RPM approach redline in highway driving (e.g., passing) but have never seen the needle climb past redline. I am quite concerened here. Engine was warmed up as well and A/C was on, so I know the engine was in good shape and wasn't rotating completely freely. Thanks for your replies!!!
