HID headlight conversion question S80

I have heard very good things about HID conversion kits, and I am thinking of getting one. But I have two questions. First, is there any company in particular I should get, or any company I should definitely avoid? Secondly, when the HID bulb is placed into the stock headlight, does that "cap" that is in front of the bulb need to be removed or modified?
