Air Conditioning Problem 850 1997

I think that what he means (as I have had air conditioning problems lately) is that if the compressor is locking up or if the Compressor clutch pulley isn't moving freely it could freeze and the serpentine accessory belt runs power steering, alternator and the air conditioning. If one pulley freezes (like the air conditioning) it will shred the belt into many pieces while stalling the engine so when you turn it back on it won't have anything that I mentioned above. On a trip last summer while I was in North Dakota I went to turn on the ACand it made a loud squeal, the engine stopped, and a puff of smoke came from the hood (that was the belt). The compressor clutch had siezed and literally melted away (there were gobs of melted metal hanging off the compressor and I think that would explain the AC problem) Needles to say North Dakota is the land of no Volvo parts so I just put a smaller serpentine belt on it until I could get back to Minneapolis (This does work as the AC is on the very bottom corner)
