I think Tom Irwin (alias Toyota Tom alias Allah) also noted very dissimilar build up patterns between the different cylinders of his 960. I also suppose that if you find a used head, it will be relatively loose, and attached to a loose lower end hopefully you'll have better luck than he did with the rings.
