AC issue (not consistent) 850

I'm having an issue with my AC right now. I've used shims in the condenser itself (so I know the AC works) but it seems to stop working after a while.

I've filled it with Freon too.

Example:

Monday it was hot, so I used the AC on my way into work (I work with adults with disabilities, so in most cases they are riding in my car with me). Once I got to my clients house (about a 45 minute drive from home), my AC stopped working.

So the last few days I drove my other car because A: it's been hotter than balls the last few days and B: it has working AC (tho it had an issue that I seemingly have fixed...not sure how).

This afternoon I received my new GPS, and I went to my Volvo to see how it works...and my AC works again.

caveat: I'm a visual learner, so I'm not sure what the damn thing is called but I cleaned the connector doohicky at the firewall and it seemed to work. I don't know what it's called, and I often times confuse it with other names that have been said on here (I'm exhausted from another long work day and high temps, so forgive me for how scatterbrained this is...more so than my normal posts i mean)
