Number 1 rule: air bags cannot be set off if the key is not in position II.
Number 2 rule: always disconnect the battery IF any safety device gets unplugged and the key needs to be in the ignition. Otherwise the SRS light will come on and a trip to a dealer...

Number 3 rule: There will always be some turkey who supplies 12V to the airbag directly and then blames the car company, after plugging the air bag back into the car to cover his tracks.

Number 4 rule: If people used seatbelts all of the time, airbags would not be needed.
