The hard way to get the engine serial number is to use a mirror. It is stamped on the firewall side at the top of the block, forward/passenger side. A bit harder to read, especially in mirror image, but it is there.
My almost 24 year old drives only when she has to. I think her car has been out of the garage twice since Christmas. I am going to plug in a battery charger just to make sure it is startable. Her car gets less use than my 220, which only runs on clear, dry days.
