1998 v70 Starting Problem V70-XC70

Yes, there are more sensors than you can shake a stick at. But if it turns over real fast, it probably has the lawnmower syndrome - zero compression. You can do one of two things, add a table spoon of oil to each cylinder [use a drinking straw, dip it into a bottle of oil about 2 inches, cap it with a finger, insert the straw into the spark plug hole, take your finger off the top of the straw.] It is a good idea to clean the plugs anyway. The oil will coat the rings and bring compression up to where it will fire.

The second method is to floor the gas pedal (turning off the gas), and crank it until the oil light goes off. Let your foot of the gas and let it start. This method requires a good battery because you may crank it for 30-60 seconds.

Remind your buddy to change the oil, it has gasoline in it.
