Avrfan, you've been on this site for 3 days and made 4 posts while KlausC has been gere since 2003 and has made over 18000 posts. He was even answering questions and offering (free) advice when he didn't even own a Volvo. I think you're being a little aggressive with your responses, esp your accusations of a conflict of interest with the xemodex company, given the disparity in committment to this community.
Klaus is allowed to vouch for products and services he feels are valuable or have other merits. As is anyone else. Vic Rocha has gotten plenty of business via referrals from this site.
In this case he's also right - I've never seen one first hand to check but I believe claims to replace the position components with a hall effect sensor system with which there are no contacting parts and nothing to wear out. These components are a greatt deal more expensive than the original Resistive components, which is probably why they weren't used in the first place. This is all pretty clearly explained on their website if you take a minute and go have a look.
Speaking of having a look, there is a great deal written about this ETM problem on the web, ESP from the gentleman who turned it into a big deal and whose efforts forced Volvo to adopt a voluntary warranty extension. IIRC his site even details who the OEM for the parts is - and Italian company I think.
There is lots of info on this site about it too. The search function on this site is really pretty good and it would have saved you a lot of grumbling to use it before isn't up so much of aklausC's time and attention. Honestly I thought of replying to your original post but I get tired of discussing the same things over and over and occasionally get tired Of asking people to use the search field and get educated before jumping right in with the questions.
Actually you'll likely find a few other people discussing how well things went with their xemodex ETM as well.
Also please don't pay someone $200+ to do this job for you - you said yourself it is a piece of cake to change it yourself.
Please try to remember that most of us come here because we like to stay away from the aggressive tone on some if the other Volvo sites.
