I braved the elements and took my torque wrench to check the lug bolts, just in case! Lo and behold, the brake shield made noise when I applied the wrench to the first lug bolt. Torque was good on all 5.
I took a screwdriver and tapped the brake shield a few times to verify that it was the same noise, it was. Then the noise was gone when the wheel moved 1/4 inch! Must be a build up of sand somewhere, so no big deal.
Good project for next spring! R&R the rotor and push the shield away from the rotor a bit or put a washer or something to move the shield a bit. Besides, the rotors are already showing signs of rust, so I can clean them up a bit and use clear paint to keep them nice looking.
Thanks,
Klaus
