Everything but the puzzling 'clearance' issue appeared to be right and correct, so in frustration we reinstalled the old rotors (which really weren't that bad) against the new pads. Of course, the old 'genuine Volvo' rotors lined up perfectly centered in the caliper's inspection port and all worked normally on the test drive. Returned the scored rotors to NAPA with a 'take no prisoners' attitude and they provided a no-questions-asked full refund. I'm guessing that they were not the correct part--from now on,FCP Groton all the way, baby !
