Yeah, I understand the issue, and I think the tire industry is being driven by liability on their recommendations.
Don't get me wrong, I don't disagree with the recommendation. I just think they are recommending based on the best control option of the entire vehicle, not the best traction option (which is what I would want them to do). If you feel you speed faster cause you have better drive grip, then the rear end is a major issue. If you drive conservatively to begin with in bad weather, you may be more interested in traction.
In any event, I would rather have them recommend what they are given the abilities of most drivers and having better front drive traction doesn't help when you have done a 180 on the expressway and are in a ditch.
This thread has really made me think.
