Jim, sell the car and get a regular FWD V70. You will lose some money, but will gain good night's sleep. AWD is not a requirement for 95% of XC drivers. Judging by your contemplating disabling the AWD, seems you are in that 95%, so cut your losses and buy a car that meets your driving requirements and leave the "cool AWD" factor to people with more money or more tolerance to sleep depravation.
