I don't know my Volvo's very well, but 40 years of car experience has always lead me to conclude the moisture related issues usually have electrical under-pinnings. The moisture allows for alternate grounding paths. On older cars with the old style distributors, you could see the sparks jumping all over the place on a cold damp night when you shut the light off! This may not be your situation, but it might be related if you can't find other failure modes that Klaus is more knowledgeable then I am.
