The tailgate ajar light came on in my 99 v70 a few days ago. My wife said she closed a bedsheet in latch, but I didn't think this caused the problem. Then the latch stopped working. It wouldn't latch the tailgate closed. Having read this post, I fiddled with the latching mechanism, moving the latch in and out of its different positions. It was very difficult to move the latch in and out. Finally, I moved it into the open position, but it dragged a coil spring out of the inside of the latch assembly. I removed the coil spring and the latch seems to work properly, but the light is still on. Could the spring operate the switch? Or maybe it works the lock, I haven't tested that yet. Any thoughts? TIA
