Leaking angle joint/tranfer case for 2004 XC90 AWD XC90

On the first generation AWD cars, the bevel gear (angle gear) seal is replacable. Not easily, not cheaply, but it is replacable.

So, should you want to question the dealer, I would certainly challenge the neceessity of replacing the bevel gear unit over replacing the seal.
