Leaking angle joint/tranfer case for 2004 XC90 AWD XC90

My dealer indicates that I have a leak in some kind of AWD transfer case...also referred to as the "angle joint" I don't understand what this is. I do understand that it is going to cost $2,300 to replace in a 3 1/2 year old car with 55K miles on it. Does anyone have any experience with this?
