No one mentions the dreaded ETM except for the original poster. I would suspect that for the surging myself although as another poster mentioned it does go into neutral at a stop, which can be fixed with a software upgrad. If it is the ETM, these are now under free replacement warranty for the first 10 years or 200K miles, transferrable.
