Don't use an IPD magnetic drain plug (my opinion) S70 1998

So a year ago, when I changed the oil in my 1998 S70 T5M, I installed the IPD magnetic drain plug.

6 months ago, I let the dealer cahnge the oil, so I didn't see the plug myself.

yesterday, I changed the oil, and the magnet was missing. I examined the plug, and compared it to the OEM plug that I kept in my toolbox. The new plug has the shoulder down in it, where IPD had an OEM plug bored out to recieve the magnet. I called IPD to verify that their plug is nothing but an OEM plug, bored out to recieve a magnet. If I see a step inside my plug, it is definitely an IPD plug, and the magnet is definintely gone. So I do not believe the dealer switched plugs on me.

So the magnet fell out, into my oil, and has probably attached itself to something. I am a bit concerned that this could cause a problem. Could it block oil passage, or damage something in its travels through my oil?

If I had even envisioned this could happen, I never would have installed this plug.

Joe
