Hi all,

Lately the service light remain on after cold start, and turns off after a few minutes driving...
As far as I can remember, it is not servicing time yet...What does it mean??

Yep, it's desigined to annoy you and get you to the dealer so he can ream you out on service that you can do yourself and then charge you $35. to turn out the light.. Alex Peper's software will reset the light on 96-97 850's as an added perk. There's also the "Home Depot" method that is cheap. Buy a roll of black electricial tape for a $1.00, cut a small piece and stick it over the light. Works like a charm.

I know that on a '95 and earlier, you can reset it yourself w/o tools, takes 5 minutes. Try this link http://www.volvospeed.com/850slight.php . Hopefully your '96 is an end of run '95. Later models require an expensive reset tool. In any event, the light is just an annoyance to get you to go into dealer for servicing as the other writer posted.

'96 and up take a special scan tool. You can buy a service light reset tool at IPD for about $180 but that's too much. I paid about $65 including shipping from a guy on eBay. There is always a guy from the UK selling them there...just look around. Took about a week to get it from England but I have mine and it works fine. Since i do my own oil changes it is invaluable.

That is just a reminder. This can be adjusted by the dealer. It can also be turned OFF by the dealer.

Yes, it is meant to turn itself off within a few minutes of starting the car. It is supposed to remind you that an oil change is due. I am not sure if it also tracks other service intervals.

It's mostly nothing but an annoyance. Resetting the light requires an expensive tool or paying the dealer to do it. I removed the light bulb for mine. I had to take the instrument cluster out anyway to replace some burned out bulbs, so it was no additional effort.
