I guess as far as the kit goes, if you have decent mechanical abitlity and time, then its not neccessary. I think really what the main function of the kit is major time savings. Not having to look at crappy Ford wiring diagrams to figure out what signals the Ford side needs and where to find them on the Volvo. All very do-able but time consuming. Figuring out coolant hoses/routing, then spending time at a parts store to find the right hoses to use. Adapting the Ford throttle cable to volvo pedal, thats all figured out and the hardware needed is included. Motor mounts and trans mounts, obvoiusly. Instructions on how to get the right side header to clear. How to modify the T-5 bell housing so it'll fit the Volvo tunnel. There's probably a few more detail stuff I'm missing but that stuff would get the vehicle running. Oh, and instructions on how to complete various tasks (or at least the ways Ross has concluded good ways to do them) throughout the conversion.
Again all of these things are very do-able if your good at mechanical problem solving and enjoy challenges, but most importantly if you put a price on your time then the kit is probably money well spent.
