Coolant temperature gauge on 240 with 338 V8 and 940 Radiator

During warm days in the summer I have observed that the Coolant temp gauge reaches sometimes 3/4 full (a few clicks below the red). This usually happens when driving around town. If I turn the heat on it quickly drops to the middle.

Has anyone experienced similar issues with the 940 Radiator?

I haven't seen the temp go more than 3/4 but I wasn't feeling too comfortable
operating the car in anything above the "middle" temp scale. I believe I have the stock 160 thermostat.

The conversion was performed by converse a few years ago.

Is there any recommended radiator upgrade?
Any other recommendations?

Thanks

Mike

Interesting, never heard of a 940 radiator being used in a 240 V8 conversion before. Any specific reason he did that? Or you did that?

I have a 240 diesel radiator you can have for $20. It was in good condition when I took it out a few years ago, but it's been sitting around since then. I'll check it out some time. It was a Nissens all metal radiator, and I never had cooling problems with it.

Also, the custom Howe radiator I had made was pretty reasonable cost wise. See pics here:

Also, you might want to check temp with a thermocouple or an IR thermometer, because the 240 temp gauge can fluctuate a bit without a lot of real change in coolant temperatre. Something related to the temp compensation board.

In my setup Ross used a 940 Radiator with a 940 Fan Shroud and electric cooling fan. Another reason for me not liking this setup is that the cooling fan frame is something like 1cm from the water pump pulley.

I can probably cut some of the mount frame in front of the radiator and cut a new
unit there.
