Of course, I'm the knucklehead who put his rear brakes together with one of the piston's pushrods delicately perched on the side of the shoe, instead of slotted all the way on. This worked for several days until I put the brakes on extra hard - at which point the little pushrod bent slightly from the off center pressure and popped off the shoe. Oh the excietement and hilarity that ensued when the brakes suddenly went out!!! }:^O Didn't bend any sheet metal, but it wasn't easy getting off so lightly!

Moral of the story, take plenty of time reassembling everything. Then take a nice long break before you put the drum back on, come back, and give it a careful going over one last time. On our old single circuit brake system cars there is no room for error whatsoever. A single failure in any part of the system results in no brakes. And that handbrake isn't much of a backup either!
