I would love to see you learn how to do it. But the only way is to have a flow bench, or even better, a flow bench and a dyno to check your results.
Would even give you some help once you were actually into it, and were at the point where some of the things I would tell you would make sense because you could try them and see what affect they had. There's room for a lot of people doing porting, as long as they are actually going to do it right and check on the results.
The way most people do porting is like playing the piano and without having the keys striking the strings. Without making any sound no one can tell whether you are doing it right or not. That's why a lot of "porters" just polish the ports and clean up sharp edges whether it actually helps or not.
