It's a switch to shut off the negative post of the battery. Thw car was sitting awile and we didn't want it to drain the bat. It's no longer on there.
Checking spark: I've plugged a sparkplug wire into the coil and checked it while someone cranked the engine, I've disconected the center wire leading from the coil to the dizzy and checked the spark while someone cranked the engine, I've had a 12V test light on the coil while cranking, and I have also had a timing light pointed towards me while cranking(sometimes the light doesn't even flicker).
