It is a VW/Audi motor. I'm not saying that I am the 1 in 152,000 but my middle child does own a 240 diesel wagon. Really though, even if you had a good diesel technician at your disposal, unless he was your dad and owned his own Volvo repair shop and had all of the tools and all of the experience from working on them at the dealer in their hay day, I would not consider one for a daily driver.
I bought my daughter's car about five years ago and it has been a daily driver for myself and two of my children at different times and in my opinion it has been a great little car. In the past 5 years though I have done:
Head gasket
water pump
front and rear timing belts
starter
Replace 2 leaking fuel delivery pipes
Weld broken power steering bracket
Glow plugs
Have torque converter rebuilt
I bought it for $150.00 from a donation center that was sending it to the boneyard, it was in awesome shape except for the fact that it was a sleazel. It had about 150K then and around 220K now and that middle child drives the piss out of it.
Has this been a good car for me? You betcha!! Would I recommend it to someone else? You'd better be a mechanic otherwise I wouldn't touch it with the proverbial 10 foot pole.
