You can pull the pan but you must be very careful. You must do it on a full moon at the stroke of mid-night with your lucky rabbits foot in your pocket and throw some salt over your shoulder for good measure. Seriously though there was a time when that was the case but we have not had that problem since the Swede's divorced themselves from the 4HP22 ZF transmission. '87 or '88 was the last year for that nonsense. You can feel free to pull your pan if you'd like and even change out the filter, although you'll find the "filter" to be nothing more than a screen. But hey, it gets the really big chunks you know. What Steve says is right on the money, it is easier and does a better job if you just pump a gallon of the old nasty out at the trans cooler line where it joins the radiator while you pour in a gallon of fresh stuff. In fact every tech I new had a drawer full of those little drain plug seals because nobody ever bothered to pull a plug, we'd just pump the stuff out. This mentallity goes all the way back to when we had no drain plugs in our trans pans and your options were to pull the pan or pump it out. If your gasket is leaking I would just snug the bolts up a little, clean it off with some brake spray clean and check it again next week and see how it looks. By snug them down I mean just that, give them a little tweak don't twist the piss out of them and have the gasket shoot out the side.
