Won't a 'real' 5 speed hook onto that bellhousing?

You mean the M47: Yep they do. However, the M47 is junk imo. I've allready got one hooked onto the B20 in my daily driver. It's crap. The M46 (OD) would make a much better choise and can handle more hp (not as if the B20 would ever trash it, but still...)
